Drs Laurence and Christine Miles qualified at Manchester University in 1979, and opened a surgery in Claughton Street in 1985. The practice moved to this purpose built surgery in 1999. As a small family practice, we are able to offer personal care and continuity of care. The practice is not a training practice. Dr Laurence Miles retired on 31st December 2016, and Dr Christine Miles retired on 31st December 2018.

Dr Anna Emmott graduated from the Liverpool University Medical School in 2004.  She worked as a junior doctor in Warrington, Whiston, Arrowe Park and Leighton Hospitals, before completing GP training in Weaverham, Cheshire in 2010.  She joined Bethany Medical Centre in 2011, becoming a partner in 2015.  She is married with 2 children.

St Helens born Dr Jarrod Schofield graduated from Liverpool University medical school in 1992. He trained as a GP in the Warrington area and has previously worked in practices in St Helens and Wigan. He joined Bethany medical centre in March 2017, becoming a partner in September 2017. He is married with 3 daughters.

Sister Georgina Lopes an Advanced Nurse Practitioner will be starting work at the practice on 14th January 2019. She has many years of experience working in general practice.

PRESCRIBING ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONER

Sr Georgina Lopes
RGN, MSc

Sr Georgina Lopes qualified as an RGN with the University College of St.Martins, Carlisle in 1999. Her initial clinical experience was working within acute medicine, coronary care and accident and emergency before moving into primary care in 2002 where she has now worked for the last 17 years. She completed her MSc in Advanced Practice from Edge Hill University in December 2017 and now working at the Bethany MC as an advanced nurse practitioner.  Georgina has a wealth of experience in the management of both acute and chronic conditions with advanced qualifications in clinical examination, diagnostics and registered as an independent non medical prescriber.

NURSE

Our nurse Sister Emma Rice works each weekday morning and each afternoon apart from Wednesday.

Appointments are necessary, book at Reception. She is qualified to deal with the following:

Asthma Management
Diabetes Management
All immunisations (both routine and travel)
Contraception Checks
General Health Checks
Weight Monitoring and Dietary Advice
Smoking Cessation
Blood Pressure Checks
Advice about Heart Disease Prevention

We recommend that all women between 25 and 50 years have a cervical smear test every three years and over 50 every five years.

We recommend that all patients over the age of 45 have their blood pressure checked at least every 5 years.

We encourage participation in the Breast Screening and Bowel Screening programmes.
